Insanity Product Description

Insanity is an at-home fitness program designed by Beachbody and Shaun T.  Beachbody is a well-known fitness company producing numerous at-home fitness products like P90x, Insanity, Hip-Hop Abs, and a few others.

Pro’s

  • No equipment necessary
  • Core strength focus
  • Variation of moves
  • Nutrition program included
  • Convenient
  • Relatively cheap for a full workout program

Con’s

  • Limited amount of moves you can do with no weights
  • Loses its replay value after a 60 day cycle
  • Lots of changing body level (standing to floor, etc)

The workouts in Insanity range from about 30 minutes to a little over 1:00.  The program is designed to make your fitness routine a habit by having a workout scheduled every day of the week.

That being said, some workouts are easier than others and there are the recovery days as well which is more stretching and getting loose for the next day.  The bottom line is, they just want you to push play for 60 days in a row; make it a habit and you will lose weight and get in better shape.

The difference between Insanity and other workout programs, is that there are not any required pieces of equipment.  All you have to do is follow along with the DVD.  In turn, this makes Insanity a cheaper fitness program then other programs like P90x or P90x2 where you need to buy dumbbells or bands, a pull up bar, stability ball, medicine balls, yoga mat, etc.

Because there is no equipment required, you can expect to be doing a lot of core strengthening exercises.  These exercises include planks, V-sits, jumping, push ups with leg raises, etc.  Furthermore, you can expect to be changing your level in several moves; burpee push ups, squat jumps, level one drills, touching the ground (mini sprints).  These moves aren’t always the best for the obese or older crowd, but are definitely functional fitness.  If you’re capable of doing these moves then Insanity will help you get fit.  If you have knee issues, you might look elsewhere.

The 10 DVD’s of Insanity are:

  • Dig Deeper & Fit Test
  • Plyometric Cardio Circuit
  • Cardio Power & Resistance
  • Cardio Recovery
  • Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs
  • Core Cardio & Balance
  • Max Interval Circuit & Fit Test
  • Max Interval Plyo
  • Max Cardio Conditioning & Cardio Abs
  • Max Recovery

Like P90x, Insanity comes with a workout guide and nutrition guide to cover the nutritional side of fitness.

Who should purchase Insanity?

I would recommend the Insanity workout program to anyone that is fairly fit and active.  Because a majority of the moves require a bit of balance and core stability, I wouldn’t recommend this program to someone who has difficulties supporting their body weight.

That being said, if you can support your weight and don’t have knee issues, Insanity is a great program to try.  It is also a nice 60-day cycle to throw into your routine while taking a break from weight-lifting.  It will help increase your Cardio and Core Strength for maximum gains.

Again, I highly recommend buying the equipment from Amazon as opposed to Beachbody as the prices are much cheaper and you’ll save yourself some coin.
